If you like Christmas music, but don't care for the schmaltzy way it is usually presented---here's a nice alternative.
The album is all Christmas relevant tunes with a strong gospel, R&B, but most af all a strong blues feel.
Each track has James Murray on lead vocals and Fenton Murray on piano or Hammond B3. The one exception is a beautiful unpluged version of John Mayer's St. Patrick's Day with James accompanying himself on the piano.
Backing them on one or more tracks are some of Santa Cruz's best jazz, R&B and blues musicians.

Jeff Rosso-Bass
Mark Corino-Bass
Paul Logan-Bass
Grover Coe-Guitar.
June Core-Drums
Steve Robertson-Drums
Andy Santana-Harmonica.
and many other supporting singers and players including
Charlie Musselwhite.
The 11 tunes include Merry Christmas Baby, Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas, The Christmas Waltz, People Get Ready, Mary's Little Boy Child, The Christmas Song, This Christmas and others.
This is a really refreshing take on the familiar pieces, and a nice introduction to some good Christmas music you might never have heard before. it's all well sung, well played and a product of our great local music scene in Santa Cruz. I'll be playing it a lot in December.

What an unexpected treat to get to hear (before release) James Murray's newest CD. James sings with soul and passion well beyond his years. At first listen
I said to myself, how old is this guy?
This record is filled with superb arrangements and serious grooves. my favorite track was This Christmas. James is a singer you had better keep your eye and (ear on).
This guy is going places.
My hat's off to all those in the Murray camp. They have delivered one smokin' record.
God bless you, James.
